| DVD Compatibility
Most DVDs on amazon.com are for the North American market. That is they are Region 1 DVDs for the NTSC television system. In Australia we are in DVD Region 4 and our TVs use the higher resolution PAL system. In order to watch a Region 1 NTSC DVD you will need a player that will accept Region 1 and a TV that can also display NTSC video.
If you do not know the capabilities of your player and TV then you need to check their specifications or try playing a Region 1 NTSC DVD. You may be able to hire a Region 1 NTSC DVD from a video rental store to test your system. By default your player and TV may not work with a Region 1 NTSC DVD but there maybe settings you can change to make them compatible.
If you aren't sure about your equipment it is probably best not to buy DVDs from overseas unless you are happy to take a gamble.
