The Australian Dollar (AUD) price approximations on this site are based on an estimated AUD/USD Foreign Exchange Rate for credit card purchases of 0.8611 based on data from 4:10 pm EST, 22 Dec.

Australian Dollar (AUD) amounts listed on this web site are to be used as a guide only as any purchase you make at amazon.com is charged in U.S. Dollars (USD).

It is not really possible to work out exactly how much a credit card transaction in U.S. Dollars (USD) will cost you in Australian Dollars (AUD) prior to purchase for a number of reasons.

  • Exchange rates change frequently and there is often a delay between when an order is accepted and when a credit card is finally debited.
  • The exchange rates used by the credit card companies for transactions that are processed today are not widely disclosed.

Exchange rate information is widely published, but published rates are either spot/inter-bank rates or retail rates, not credit card rates. Australian banks quote retail foreign exchange rates for selling you cash, drafts or telegraphic transfers, but those sell rates don't apply to credit card transactions. For credit card purchases typically overseas transactions are converted into Australian Dollars at a rate of exchange fixed by MasterCard or Visa, not by the Australian card issuing banks.

Visa provide a Currency Converter which can be used to get an indication of the rate you may receive when using your Visa card. Go to the Visa Exchange Rate Calculator and enter the following:

  • My Card is in: Australian Dollars (AUD)
  • Convert To: US Dollars (USD)
  • Bank Fee: 2.5%

(Australian banks typically charge a foreign currency fee on credit card transactions of 2–2.5%)
